Are you looking to save money on heating bills this winter?

Energy advisors from HEET, a not-for-profit organisation in Waltham Forest, will be running an advice surgery in the Mall Walthamstow on Thursday November, 16.

Established in 1999 by Tom Ruxton, HEET aims to keep householders safe and warm and fight climate change.

The surgery will be open from 10am until 4pm. The organisation will be handing out leaflets and free energy saving appliances to those that complete a survey.

It will also be advising low-income and vulnerable people how to save money on fuel bills this winter and stay warm.

Mr Ruxton said: “Two percent of Waltham Forest households are fuel poor, which means that they need to spend 10 per cent of their income in order to keep their home adequately warm.

“Each winter about 70 people in Waltham Forest die because of a cold home and eight times that number are admitted to hospital.

“We would like to help people make an informed decision about Smart Meters as they are going to be pushed to accept one by their energy company over the coming months.

“The government wants everyone to have one by 2020 but unfortunately there are many myths out there as to whether they are a good idea.

“We want to make people aware of the facts.”

The trained advisors will be on hand to help shoppers check if they are eligible for the Warm Home Discount which could cut hundreds of pounds off electricity bills.
