Although children across the country will be hoping for a white Christmas, many elderly and disabled people dread waking up to snow if it means they are unable to leave their homes.
A ‘Snow Angels’ scheme has been launched in Waltham Forest to encourage do-gooders to sign up to clear snow and ice from paths and pavements in their community.
Volunteers who register will receive 20kg of grit, a hi-vis vest, protective gloves and a snow scoop.
Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Member for the Environment, said: “Every year we get eager residents volunteering to be Snow Angels and do their bit to keep their neighbours safe.
“I’m really proud of our residents for this community spirit which helps elderly and vulnerable residents keep in touch with family, friends and neighbours.”
