Even though the days are growing colder as winter approaches there’s no stopping this bunch of students from playing outdoors.

Youngsters at Frederick Bremer School in Siddeley Road, Walthamstow are jubilant after being gifted with table tennis equipment.

Two weather-resistant tables have been set up in the yard after the school’s successful application to the Jack Petchey Table Tennis programme in partnership with Table Tennis England.

The multicultural secondary school already has two outdoor tables and one indoor table in its autistic department which were purchased from a Jack Petchey Foundation Achievers Award grant.

Elaine Seymour, operations manager at the school, said “Our tables are used all the time and we are delighted to receive two more.

“It’s great to see our students enjoying themselves.

“Many of them lack access to outdoor space because they live in social housing and in flats so it gives them an opportunity to enjoy the game and to socialise.

“It’s one very happy band of young people.”

The Jack Petchey Foundation was established in 1999 to recognise positive contributions young people make to society and to support them in achieving their potential.

Sir Jack Petchey, CBE, founder of the Foundation is passionate about giving young people freedom and opportunity.

The 92-year-old said: “Table tennis is a great sport and I am delighted more young people are playing because of our partnership with TTE.”

Sara Sutcliffe, TTE chief executive, said “These tables provide a safe, fun environment for young people to enjoy our sport and we are proud that our partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation is flourishing.”
