COMMUNITIES’ “absolutely brilliant” artistic vision for Redbridge is on the brink of being submitted to the Mayor of London.

Schools, businesses and libraries have contributed their cultural experiences towards Redbridge Council’s Borough of Culture bid, which will be submitted to Sadiq Khan on Friday, December 1.

Redbridge is competing against other London boroughs for £1 million grant to stage a programme of events in partnership with organisations like Tate, Shakespeare’s Globe and Film London.

Cllr Jas Athwal, Labour leader of Redbridge Council, called the bid “a huge opportunity” to show off the borough’s cultural diversity.

He said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant to see everyone across Redbridge come together in support of our bid to become London Borough of Culture.

“This is a huge opportunity for Redbridge, and if we are successful we will have the opportunity to demonstrate our wonderful, rich and diverse culture to not only the rest of the country but to the world.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has got involved so far and helped us to create our bid, and remind you that even after the bid has been submitted you can still show your support on social media using #ThisIsRedridge.”

The bid launched at Redbridge Drama Centre on October 9.
