A STUDENT choir sang their hearts out at a ceremony marking the launch of a new appeal.

Pupils from Avanti Court Primary School in Barkingside greeted Christmas tree lights coming on at King George Hospital in Goodmayes for the second consecutive year.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust’s (BHRUT), which runs King George Hospital, launched its Treasured Memories appeal to fund memory boxes for bereaved children and young people.

Cherie Vincent, music lead said: “This is an important part of learning values for the children, to help them see why it’s important to care for others. We like to get involved in the community and music has a way of bringing people together.

“We are a performing arts school so music is at the heart of everything we do.”

Anyone can make a donation and dedicate a light on the tree to their loved one.

The ceremony took place on Thursday, December 7.
