Christmas shoppers have been warned to be vigilant amid reports of violence and disorder at Stratford station.

British Transport Police officers have stepped up uniformed and undercover patrols at Stratford and Stratford International following a spate of anti-social incidents.

A recent operation at the mainline station has led to three people being charged with possession of an offensive weapon after three large blades were discovered, police say.

Sheareem Cookhorn, 19, of Park Lane, Tottenham, as well as a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boy from Tottenham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on December 11 accused of the offences.

Chief Inspector John Loveless said: “It is horrifying and totally unacceptable that individuals are carrying weapons like this in public.

"The Stratford transport hub is more than just a transport link.

“It is a conduit to provide people with access to not just all of London, the east and south east of England; but entertainment venues, as well as hundreds of shops, restaurants and coffee shops.

“No one should feel scared or intimidated when travelling through or working at any of the Stratford stations.

“Anyone believing they can display anti-social behaviour or embark in other criminality without consequence; should think again.”
