Firefighters have issued a safety warning after a portable lamp ignited bedding and caused a blaze at a terraced house.
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to Ruckholt Road, Leyton, at around 6.40am on Saturday (December 9).
Part of the ground floor was damaged by fire and the first floor sustained smoke damage.
One man and one woman were rescued by crews wearing breathing apparatus.
They were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
Crews from Leyton, Leytonstone, Stratford and Homerton stations attended the incident and brought the fire under control by 7.30am.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “People need to make sure their portable lamps are standing upright and kept well away from objects and materials that might cause a fire.”
