Consistency is key in any survival bid and Justin Edinburgh is keen to see his side extend their two-game winning sequence against Maidstone United on Saturday.

A 2-1 FA Trophy win over Haringey Borough on Saturday gave the O’s back-to-back wins for the first time since September.

Orient’s main focus remains on National League survival and Edinburgh is, therefore, eager to make it three wins from three at the Gallagher Stadium.

“I am pleased that we have recorded back-to-back wins ad that increases confidence, which is key at the moment,” Edinburgh said.

“I see a great amount of belief in the players, certainly after the Sutton game, and again they have come in after the FA Trophy win and moral is high.

“It has to be our focus to win against Maidstone now and build on that form. It would be our first back-to-back wins in the league for a long time.

“That can only help us and will give us a chance to claw back some of the teams ahead of us. That has to be the short-term aim.”

Edinburgh insists the trip to Maidstone will be no easy task and highlighted a free-scoring display which saw United comprehensively thrash Torquay United 4-0 in the FA Trophy last time out.

Saturday’s hosts have, however, conceded four goals in three of their last five matches.

The Orient boss believes the game will be far from open and says he will take victory by any margin possible.

“They have addressed their defensive issues over the past few weeks and have kept two clean sheets in a row,” he said.

“We can’t go there thinking about it being an open game and have to make it as difficult as we can before we get the chance to impose ourselves.

“We will take 1-0 or 2-1 and are just looking for the victory to help us climb up the league.

“We go there with more confidence than we would have done when I walked in the door three weeks ago. That is all you can ask and we need to progress bit by bit.”

Edinburgh will hope his side can show the same desire which took them beyond a stubborn Borough side in the FA Trophy.

They had to come from behind against the Isthmian North League Division One side as their hosts put up a spirited effort.

Once again, Edinburgh is eager to accentuate the positives, and believes coming from behind to win is further evidence of Orient’s growing belief.

“Coming from behind was a big psychological boost and it is the first time we have been able to do that for a long time,” he said.

“That is a real plus and can help us overcome that fear of going behind.

“I think mentally, for the players, it is a big thing to know that we are able to turn a game around.”

The visit to Maidstone signals the start of the famously hectic Christmas fixture schedule, which sees Orient play four times between now and January 1.

Despite the obvious demands such commitments are bound to take on players, Edinburgh says he will look to maintain continuity in squad selection as much as possible.

“I don’t look at it as a need to rotate and will always look at the individual in terms of fitness, fatigue and recovery,” he said, “As a player that was the way I wanted it to be. If you are playing in a team that is winning, nobody wants to be rested or left out.

“We will be fully aware of and will keep a close eye on players’ fitness levels. I would like to get a team that is settled and winning. That will help us push on.”
