Cuts cause pressure
Redbridge Council has been operating under heavy pressure over the past few years, courtesy of the Tory government’s austerity agenda.
This agenda has seen a 40 per cent cut in government funding to Redbridge Council, equating to £147 million in cuts.
Despite these funding reductions, the Labour Council has managed to balance the budget, and retained major services that are vital to the community.
Councillors have every reason to be proud of the record over the past four years -keeping all the libraries in the boroughopen, cleaning upthe streets clean and bins collected and changing attitudes to illegal dumping.
The government has been seeking to squeeze the life blood out of local communities with their austerity policies.
The Labour council in Redbridge has reacted in creative ways. This has meant making some difficult cuts, but also getting better returns on monies and services provided.
