A church celebrating its 125th birthday will treat members of the community to a free lunch to be “a sign of God’s love and presence in the community”.

St Margaret with St Columba’s Church will hold a service of thanksgiving on Sunday, January 21, led by Stephen Cottrell, Church of England Bishop of Chelmsford, followed by a party.

Parish priest at the chapel in Woodhouse Road in Leytonstone, Father Neil-Allan Walsh said: “Everyone will be very welcome at our big celebration of our first 125 years’ service.

“St Margaret’s Church is committed to continuing to be a sign of God’s love and presence in the community we serve.”

Deputy Lieutenant of Waltham Forest, Major Jeremy Fern TD DL will attend the service which will starts at 10.30 am and Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Yemi Osho, will join worshippers for the lunch.

Last year more than 2,000 people visited the church’s weekly pop-up shop which is held each Thursday from 2pm to 33.30pm and run by volunteers.

“Thursday is the new Sunday here,” added Father Neil.
