A new piece of equipment donated to a hospital will have a “huge impact” on how quickly ear, nose and throat patients are seen.

The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) team at Whipps Cross Hospital had been struggling to cope with demand for twenty pieces of important equipment, called scopes.

The scopes were being used so regularly, staff were running short while waiting 10 minutes for each piece of equipment to be cleaned for reuse multiple times a day.

However, using money donated by the Whipps Cross League of Friends, an organisation which raises funds for the hospital, a new cleaning machine has been purchased.

The machine also cuts the time taken to clean each scope down from more than 10 minutes to just two.

Jacque Wells, outpatients nurse, said: “Being able to clean equipment within the department rather than go all the way to Endoscopy has saved us so much time, which will have a huge impact on how quickly we see patients.”
