A WALTHAM Abbey school has thrown itself into a scheme to get its younger pupils engrossed in a good book.

King Harold Academy’s Every Reads programme required Year 7 and 8 students to come into class each day with a reading book.

Equipped with a long reading list, access to the school library and mini-libraries in each classroom, it is hoped reading for pleasure will become part of the academy’s culture.

Tony Jones, father of pupil George, said: “He reads a lot a home now compared to the past when he never even picked up a book.”

It is asked that any King Harold parents with unneeded books aimed at 11 to 14 year-olds donate them to the school.
