A PHOTOGRAPHER who snapped King Penguins in the Falklands sealed top prize in a competition.

David Tyrrell, a member of Wanstead and Woodford Photographic Society, was selected as the winner of the monthly competition by a judge from The Royal Photographic Society.

Arnie Göbel, a licentiate of The Royal Photographic Society, picked Mr Tyrrell’s King Penguins on Parade over photos of portraits, architecture and sunny landscapes.

Mr Tyrrell said: “It was a bitterly cold and very windy day but an amazing sight of over 1,000 breeding King Penguins around me. The distance shot of the penguins against the vastness of the blue sea was an unbelievable sight.”

Mr Göbel said: “We had some wonderful images and it is always a problem trying to choose one winner from such a wide selection of subject matter.

“However, the one that stood out was of King Penguins strolling along the beach in the Falklands which was captured by David Tyrrell.”
