Volunteers will hand out rucksacks full of supplies to homeless people this weekend as part of a charity campaign.
Students from University College London and school children from across east London will be helping staff from Muslim Aid hand out packs over the weekend.
The youngsters helped the charity put together the bags in December as part of its winter “Share the Love” campaign and each contains a sleeping bag, hat, gloves, socks, dry food and plastic cutlery.
In total, 600 of the bags will be distributed at various locations in east London over the weekend, including Walthamstow, Stratford and Liverpool Street station.
Volunteers officer for Muslim Aid, Zakaria Hussain, said: "Muslim Aid staff and volunteers have out providing a lifeline to the elderly and homeless in different parts of London throughout the Winter months.
“The response has been very moving – the homeless, hit by the austerity of recent years, are so happy when we share the warm goods in the rucksacks. Our volunteers love sharing a chat with them.
“We are out again this weekend in east London as temperatures have dropped again and the vulnerable will struggle this weekend."
Muslim Aid’s Share the Love campaign, which runs from December to February, has seen the charity support food banks, homeless shelters and projects to keep vulnerable people warm over winter.
