Call a public meeting

Against all the evidence, Peter Davies alleges that only a small group of people are against the parking measures in and around Wanstead High Street (Opinion, February 8).

If he really doubts how widespread opposition is, let him or his local Labour councillors call a public meeting to listen to responses.

Make it an extremely large hall, Peter.

In just 11 days last Autumn, 1,180 signed a petition against it (including Labour supporters who feel let down by the party).

And many more will be even angrier when they experience the full implications from next week.

Just for starters, it will deter many families from using the wonderful new Christchurch Green playground facilities, from visiting the surrounding park, the library or local events, or even being able to collect visitors from Snaresbrook Station.

As for the full consultation promised, the more-than 64 per cent who oppose, or do not support the scheme (council figures), would have been much higher if over 40 per cent of Wanstead residents hadn’t been purposely omitted, among them all homes in Blake Hall Road and the Lake House and Aldersbrook estates.

Using ‘shanks’ pony’ may work for Mr Davies, who lives very close to the High Street, but Aldersbrook residents live up to two miles away.
