A teenage boy was reportedly hit in the head with a hammer during an attack at a park.

The 15-year-old was walking in Lee Valley Regional Park in Waltham Abbey at around 9pm on February 12 when three suspects approached him.

Police say the boy was struck on the head before falling to the ground, when the gang began to kick him in various parts of the body.

He was later discovered by a passerby and taken to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

Two of the suspects have been described as being black and one as being white and they were aged in their mid to late teens.

Officers investigating the incident said they had been given no further descriptions of the suspects.

DC Ben Elliott, from Essex Police, said: “The victim was attacked from behind as he walked alone in park. We believe he may have been struck by a hammer and assaulted further when knocked to the floor.

"I would like to thank the man who found the victim and quickly called police.

"Fortunately the boy was not seriously injured during the attack."
