A BELOVED Pie n Mash shop is finally reopening – and will be dedicated to the owners late husband.

June Robins wants Tommy Alpress’ memory to live on through her family business, Robin’s Pie and Mash shop in High Street, Wanstead.

The well-known couple had been married for 57 years, but Tommy died at the age of 79 after an operation on an anyeurism in 2017.

And in January, Mrs Robins shut up shop prompting speculation that it had shut for good.

But having been refurbished to include a sign saying “Tommy’s Pie n Mash corner” it will finally reopen at 10am tomorrow (Wednesday).

“I want to make sure his legacy lives on,” Mrs Robins said. “He was such a wonderful man so he deserves a lasting tribute here.”

The shop is her family business so while Tommy used to help by buying the food from the market, the Robins name fronted the operation.

She added: “I think of him constantly and it makes me sad. I think he would be delighted to know his name is now being used in the shop.”

Anyone is invited to the opening at 10am, and will feature balloons in Tommy’s honour.
