A date has been set for the inquest into the death of a teenager who died after being transferred twice between hospitals within six days.

Bradley Dearman, from Chigwell, died at King George Hospital, Redbridge, on 12 June 2016.

He had initially been admitted to the hospital on June 7 before he was handed over to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

The 15-year-old was transferred back to King George on June 10 and he died two days later.

At a pre-inquest review hearing, coroner Nadia Persaud said the inquest, which will be held on March 5, will examine whether Bradley was in “a fit state” to return to the original hospital.

She added that it will assess any deterioration in his clinical condition, whether any aspects of care contributed to his death, the cause of his death and any changes to his feeding regime.

This final point was touched on by Bradley’s father, Ian, who said it was “the main issue” he had been concerned with since his son’s death, suggesting that he “wasn’t able to take the amount of food the doctors wanted him to take”.

He added: “It did seem as though he was transferred [back to King George] sooner rather than later and he was still having breathing difficulties.”

Ms Persaud, who noted that the inquest is likely to take up a whole day given the number of witnesses required, said, at this point, she did not have “any concerns about the care received [at the Royal London Hospital]”.
