A Leyton Orient star returned to his old school to meet his some of his former teachers and offer advice to young students.

Matt Harrold visited Trinity Catholic High School in Woodford Green after he was offered an invite by O’s fan and head of Year 11, Dave Sears.

The Leyton-born striker went back to his old school last week, where he met a group of 30 pupils for a question and answer session.

Students quizzed Mr Harold, 33, on everything from his life at Trinity to his experiences as a professional footballer.

Mr Harrold said: “Some of the questions were excellent and I even learned something, I hadn’t realised I was the youngest player to score a hat-trick for Brentford.

“It is a bit surreal coming back after such a while but I’ve really enjoyed it and I’d be happy to return.”

The visit was not the first occasion in recent times Orient have sent a representative to the school.

In November last year, the club’s principal owner, Kent Teague, visited Trinity to speak to a group of Year 10 to 13s about business and economics.

Mr Sears said: “It was great to welcome Matthew Harrold back to the school.

“He gave a great deal of insight into his life as a footballer as well as the choices he had to make as a student to help ensure that he was a success in his career as a footballer.

“It was very interesting to hear how he responded to the setback of being released by West Ham as a youngster but great to see how he responded and overcame the challenges that were put before him as a result.”
