MP Iain Duncan Smith has joined forces with Cold Feet actress Fay Ripley to encourage people to support Marie Curie’s annual Great Daffodil Appeal.

The pair met with the charity’s nurses at a parliamentary event to celebrate the launch this week.

Every March the charity which provides care and support to people with terminal illnesses and their families distributes 8 million daffodil pins for its largest fundraising campaign, which raised £6.6 million last year.

Mr Duncan Smith, MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, said: “I have pledged my support to the appeal and I’m encouraging local people to help the charity raise more money than ever before by simply giving a donation and wearing a Marie Curie daffodil pin.”

Ms Ripley added: "Chances are, we all know someone who’s been affected by a terminal illness, so it’s absolutely crucial that families have the care and support they need at such a difficult time.”

Nurses Victoria Shodeko and Victoria Oluwalogbon joined them in calling for people to buy a daffodil at their local store.

Ms Shodeko said: “It means I can be there for someone who is dying. We urgently need as many people as possible to give a donation this year and wear their daffodil with pride.”
