Youngsters at Mission Grove Primary School are enjoying a week of hands-on classroom activities designed to engage them in science, technology, engineering and maths.

STEM week is taking place at the site in Buxton Road, Walthamstow, this week and pupils are busy building rafts, go-karts, remote control cars and catapults.

Assistant head teacher Ben Darling said: “We have been trying to engage the children with new activities and it just empowers them to learn new skills they would not have learned through reading, writing and maths.

“It’s especially good for those who are not confident to help them perform better in the classroom.”
