SILKY skilled golf fans have a chance to shine at the inaugural Lee Valley FootGolf Open over Easter weekend.

Edmonton’s Lee Valley Golf Course has put out an open invitation to players of all ages and levels.

FootGolf takes place on a traditional golf course but replaces a standard golf equipment with a football.

The object of the game is to get the ball into each hole in the fewest number of shots possible.

James Hetherington, accommodation and golf manager at Lee Valley Golf Course said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting our first FootGolf Open at Lee Valley. For those completely new to the sport, the Open is a great excuse to get outdoors, enjoy our course and learn the game.

“In addition to the social aspect of the game, participants will also improve their fitness – measuring just over 2km in length, the course will see competitors walk over 2,600 steps to complete a round of FootGolf. That might be a lot of walking for some however, you’ll be having so much fun you won’t even notice.”

Participants are required to wear trainers - football boots and blades are not permitted - and advised to wear comfortable sports clothing. Traditional golf apparel is suggested.

Entry to the competition is £12 for adults and £6 for children and includes a hot beverage and savoury snack. Competitors can bring their own football (standard size 5 ball) or hire a ball on the day for £10 which is refundable upon return.
