A personal training team made up of women are located in east London.

They are almost completely mobile, hopping on their bikes to meet clients. I spoke to founder Kate Burrows, 38, to find out more…

Where do you live?

After living in Hackney for six years, where our main studio is, I upped sticks and moved to Devon two-years-ago.

So I split my week. I come to Hackney on a Monday and travel back to Devon on a Thursday. It’s the best of both worlds.

Hackney vibe during the week, followed by the beauty of Devon at the weekend. Perfect for surfing, running, hiking, cycling etc.

Were you always interested in fitness?

I have always been active. I thank my parents, when I grew up we cycled, swam, did martial arts, went to dance classes, theatre groups.

My dad got up with the birds so lie ins were unheard of in my house and TV was limited as a treat.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

What is important about fitness?

Fitness is not about a week boot camp or a six week plan. It is about changing habits long term to achieve a balanced lifestyle.

I love exercise and I love wine - everything in moderation.

We have helped so many clients throughout the years from rehabilitation, pre and post-natal, weight loss, training for an event or recovering from an illness.

Did you always intend for it to be a female team?

I was a Spice Girls fan so I always wanted a girl gang!

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

How do you think working with women only is different than for other trainers?

The majority of our clients are female at KBPT as women know women’s bodies. We do also train men though, and couples. We love training a variety of clients.

When did you train?

I qualified as a PT in 2009 - a couple of weeks before my 30th birthday. I was so happy to be changing my career.

Why did you start KBPT?

I lasted a day being a PT in a gym. It grew naturally, a couple of girls came to work for me, then eventually a studio in Netil House, seven PT’s and a yoga teacher.

I wanted to offer a service that worked around peoples hectic London lives.

Prior to being a PT I worked in recruitment so I know how hard it is to juggle a hectic office job and exercise. In the summer I get to spend a lot of time training people in the park which suits me down to the ground.

Anything to add?

It has been amazing since starting KBPT to be part of so many people’s fitness journeys and make so many friends along the way. I can honestly say I love my job.
