Two men have been jailed after admitting a string of burglaries estimated to have cost their victims more than £100,000 across north and east London.

Nicusor Anghelache, 33, and Alexandru Caulea, 24, were linked to a burglary spree between January 2016 and December 2017 by DNA evidence.

The homeless pair targeted addresses in Waltham Forest, Enfield and Haringey, with the items taken during the burglaries thought to be worth £100,000.

At one address, £50,000 in cash was stolen. A picture was found on both defendants' phones of Caulea posing with a substantial amount of cash, hours after the burglary.

Waltham Forest CID and the Forest Safer Neighbourhoods Team were able to link some 14 burglaries through DNA evidence, CCTV enquiries and a vehicle used.

Both men were arrested in January, and subsequently charged.

At Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, Anghelache admitted six counts of burglary and one attempted burglary, while Caluea admitted 10 burglaries and one attempted burglary.

Both were jailed for six years, as some of their victims looked on.

PC Aaron Barnes-Weston of Waltham Forest CID said: "Anghelache and Caulea were behind a prolonged campaign of residential break-ins across north London, and they have now received long jail terms for their crimes.

"Burglary is a deplorable, invasive crime which has a lasting impact on victims. I hope they can take comfort in the fact that the people responsible have been brought to justice."
