PEOPLE searching for affordable housing received a boost after six new properties were unveiled.
Developers, councillors and homeowners gathered in Yellowpine Way, Hainault, to cheer the completion of the development on Tuesday, March 20.
Workmen turned underused and vandalised garages into two three-bedroom homes and four two-bedroom homes for Redbridge families.
Cllr Farah Hussain, cabinet member for housing says: ‘I am delighted to open these new council homes which will provide affordable housing for six Redbridge families.
“This is part of our council housing new build programme and we have many more properties due to be completed soon. It is one of our key priorities to increase the amount of council houses we have.
“I hope the families are happy in their new homes.”
The council says they are “well on the way” to delivering more than 171 new affordable council homes.
Three more housing sites will be completed in the next few months, with five more starting in the summer.
Cllr Jas Athwal, Labour leader of Redbridge Council says: “It was great to see the excitement on the faces of the new tenants.”
