A new digital platform has been launched to connect young people in Waltham Forest with opportunities suited to their passions and interests.

The digital platform, known as SLENKY, connects young people with jobs, careers advice and work experience placements on their mobiles.

SLENKY is aimed at young people aged 13 – 24 and advertises opportunities in different employment sectors; linking businesses with young people across the borough.

Cllr Simon Miller, Waltham Forest Council’s Member for Economic Growth and High Streets, said: “We’re excited to be the first London Borough taking our communications into a space dedicated to the conversation of opportunities - in the widest sense of the word - for young people.

“We knew we needed a smarter, digitally-focused way of supporting young people to explore their passions and improve their life chances.

“SLENKY aims to revolutionise the delivery of careers information and opportunities available to our young residents, particularly those who may engage less with traditional careers support.”

Dami Fajobi, Head of Client Services for SLENKY, said: “We’re really excited to be working with Waltham Forest Council. They are definitely flying the flag for youth communications for Local Authorities - hopefully others will follow suit. 2018 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Waltham Forest.”

The platform is set to donate its software to all schools in the borough for free, to help students find relevant work experience opportunities.

Career opportunities are offered from businesses including the London Fire Brigade, the Lawn Tennis Association and the advertising agency, Dentsu Aegis, among others.
