Gosht in Buckhurst Hill has only been open for a week, but the fact that it’s already so busy is a testament to how good it is.

The owners come from a takeaway background but decided to branch out and create a classy, fine dining experience that is a far cry from the greasy kebabs you might be used to.

This isn’t your typical Turkish: inside, the decor is beautiful, with purple and yellow chairs and chandeliers hanging form the wall giving it a sophisticated and stylish feel.

To start with, we opted for kavurma (£5.50), humus with pan fried pieces of diced lamb on top.

We wanted to try something a little different and it did not disappoint - the meat melts in your mouth and the garlicky flavour of the chickpea dip really compliment eachother.

Baba ganoush (£4.50) was also a hit, and the sigara boregi (£5.50), rolls of filo pastry stuffed with feta cheese and parsley, were incredible.

The main course menu features classic dishes such as lamb shank (£15) iskender (£16) as well as a range of burgers and steaks for fussier eaters.

If you’re feeling adventurous you could try the octopus grill (£19) - but we decided to order more traditional dishes.

My friend’s chef’s king prawn (£20) was delicious, tasty and fresh while my Ali nazik (£18), chargrilled pureed buergine with lamb shish and butter sauce, was extravagant.

The portion sizes were huge and everything was beautifully presented that it felt fancy and elaborate.

If you think you don’t have room for desert, I would strongly recommend you ignore this feeling and order the pistachio cake (£7).

My friend and I both agreed it is one of the nicest things we have ever eaten.

And of course, no desert at a Turkish restaurant is complete without baklawa, and the homemade ones here (£5.50) are to die for.

We washed our meal down with a bottle of Malbec (£26.95) and a Cosmopolitan cocktail (£9).

Gosht is somewhere you could go for any occasion: a quiet night with a friend, a catch up with a large group or even a birthday. But it’s bound to become one of the most popular spots in Buckhurst Hill, so you’ll probably need to book.
