Whipps Cross Hospital has urged residents to get involved with its celebrations of the NHS turning 70 on July 5 this year.

Hospital staff want to hear residents’ stories and memories to reflect on the role the hospital has played in the community over the years.

The hospital particularly wants to hear from anyone who was born or worked at the hospital in 1948; the year the NHS was founded.

Dr Heather Noble, medical director at Whipps Cross Hospital, said: “Everyone at Barts Health is excited to celebrate this landmark.

“We’re proud to have been part of the community for such a long time and see local residents as very much part of the Whipps Cross family.

“We’ll be holding events across our hospitals and asking patients and staff to share their stories and reflections – if you were born or worked at Whipps Cross in 1948 we’d love to hear from you so do get in touch.”

Whipps Cross will also be holding an open day in partnership with Barts Health on Saturday July 7 to bring the celebrations to a close.

Dr Noble added: “As we look forward to the next 70 years and beyond, we are determined to build on the recent improvements we’ve made.

“We have a vision for making Whipps Cross thrive as a world class health and wellbeing campus to serve local people’s needs for generations to come.

“With the population growing, we believe the key is to develop services around what local people really need, so are working with our partners and community to do exactly that.”
