A man has been stabbed in Walthamstow amid a recent spate of violent attacks in the area.

Police say the man, in his 20s, has been taken to hospital following an incident in Billet Road on Thursday afternoon.

Met officers and London Ambulance Serivce were called to the scene at around 12.50pm.

Scotland Yard said it was waiting on an update on the victim's condition.

The latest stabbing comes during a spate of violence in Walthamstow and across London as a whole.

Some 50 people have been killed in stabbings and shootings in the capital since the beginning of 2018, while three people have been murdered in Walthamstow in less than a month.

On March 14, 20-year-old Joseph Williams-Torres was shot and killed in Essex Close, before 41-year-old Jermaine Johnson was stabbed to death in Vallentin Road on March 19.

Those two killings were following on Monday evening by the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Leyton boy Amaan Shakoor outside Walthamstow Leisure Centre.
