By Keith Prince, GLA member for Redbridge and Havering
I take great pleasure in representing Redbridge and Havering as an Assembly member here at City Hall.
For the past few years, I’ve been bringing to Sadiq Khan’s attention, local issues that residents want to get sorted and voicing them in the London Assembly.
It’s a real privilege to get the voices of people from Redbridge and Havering in earshot of people making everyday decisions that will affect us.
Here at the Greater London Authority Conservatives, I am the spokesman for transport, which has taken me on my fare-share of rides.
This year, I joined the battle for London’s cab drivers, something I am extremely passionate about.
Having brought to the attention the necessity of London’s cabbies, I lobbied for residents who make their living on our roads to be exempt of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) to the Treasury.
I’m happy to say that we succeeded.
This year sets to be a bumpy one here at the GLA. TfL are in financial turmoil, so I have my job cut out pointing out ways the Mayor can save money and support the general public when it comes to travel costs and ease of travel.
I look forward to the challenge. Finding solutions to support the my local community has always been at the heart of why I got into politics so I’ll keep you updated on how I’m getting on in this column.
