Police have taped off several roads in Leytonstone after a firearm was reportedly discharged in the area.

Residents reported hearing gunfire in the Cann Hall Road area in the south of the borough, during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The incident is understood to have taken place at around 2.30am.

Officers have closed off Odessa Road and Tavistock Road hwhile an investigation is underway.

A Met spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of gunshots in the area of Odessa Road.

"There was no reported injury. Trident officers are investigating."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident at this time.

The gunshots come in a month in which Waltham Forest has been gripped by a spate of violent crimes.

Scotland Yard is currently investigating three murders that have taken place in Walthamstow during the past month.

On March 14, 20-year-old Joseph Williams-Torres, was shot and killed in Essex Close, before 41-year-old Jermaine Johnson was stabbed to death in Vallentin Road on March 19.

Days later on April 2, 16-year-old Amaan Shakoor from Leyton died following a shooting outside Walthamstow Leisure Centre in Markhouse Road.

A man in his 20s was then stabbed in Billet Road in broad daylight in Thursday afternoon, escpaing the attack with non-life threatening injuries.
