The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition have promised to save Waltham Forest’s trees and block plans to build “monster blocks” in Walthamstow.

The party has pledged to reopen youth centres and expand youth services to tackle the increase in crime and attacks on young people if elected on May 3.

The party describes itself as “anti-cuts” and wants to put Jeremy Corbyn’s anti-austerity manifesto into action in Waltham Forest town hall.

In total, 17 trade unionists, socialists and community campaigners are standing for TUSC across Waltham Forest.

Nancy Taaffe, who is standing in High Street against council leader Clare Coghill, said: “Enough is enough. For too long our jobs and services have been slashed and working-class people socially cleansed out of our borough.

“We will campaign alongside Corbyn-supporting Labour Party candidates. But we are standing where there are right-wing councillors that force through cuts and privatisation, who voted to sack youth workers, and who voted to destroy the town square.

“We say we need good jobs, council homes and fully-funded decent public services. And we can’t wait till a general election in 2022 – life is too hard now.”
