A 27-year-old man has been arrested in east London on suspicion of terrorism.

The arrest at 3pm on Friday was part of a proactive operation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command and was backed up by armed police and local officers.

The man was held at a south London police station on suspicion of commissioning, preparing or instigating a terrorist act.

A 24-year-old woman in north London was arrested on suspicion of having information about acts of terrorism as part of the same operation.

Police are searching the address where the woman was arrested and three properties in east London.

Enquiries continue.
