This is the scene as police and fire brigade officials attempt to determine what caused a fire at a care home that left one woman dead.

Firefighters were called to Connington Court, in Connington Crescent, Chingford, at around 2.15am on Friday morning.

Some 12 people had safely left the block prior to the brigade's arrival.

However, police said the body of one woman, thought to be in her 30s, had been found inside the building.

Chingford fire station manager Keith Williams, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters worked hard to contain the spread of the fire which destroyed the roof.
