Seven generations of people celebrated the 70th anniversary of the state of Israel.

East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue marked the occasion with a party.

Younger members of the congregation later enjoyed making flags of Israel, while adults engaged in a debate about the early versions of the Declarations of Independence of Israel, which was led by student rabbi Daniela Touati .

The family service was led by Rabbi Richard Jacobi along with his father Senior Rabbi Harry Jacobi as well as student rabbi Daniela.

Rabbi Richard said "It was a wonderful atmosphere with the congregation spanning seven decades all celebrating Israel’s 70th birthday.”

The event closed with traditional blessings of wine and Chollah bread followed by an Israeli style finger food buffet (known as a Kiddush) of hummus, falafel, and pitta with chopped salad.

The celebration took place on Shabbat morning, Saturday 20th April.

Israel’s independence day is also known as Yom Ha'atzmaut.
