A teacher from Redbridge has raised £1,700 for vulnerable children by running Sunday’s London Marathon.

Novice runner Sayma Khandokar, 42, completed the 26.2 mile course in six hours and four minutes, and admitted “it was really tough at times.”

But she was spurred on in the knowledge she was supporting The Children’s Society, which works with some of the most vulnerable children across the country who are affected by issues such as poverty, abuse and neglect.

The charity’s supporter engagement officer, Leah Crowther said: “Completing the London Marathon is a truly remarkable accomplishment and Sayma’s outstanding efforts will help to make a real difference to young people’s lives.

“We are so grateful to Sayma, along with all of our London Marathon runners for taking part and supporting our vital work.”

Sayma said she wanted to run for The Children’s Society as they support older vulnerable children (ten to 18 year olds) who are often forgotten.

She said after the race: “It feels amazing! It was really tough at times but knowing that I was helping the charity gave me the inspiration to see it through.”
