A COUPLE of key bus routes are set to be significantly cut back.
From May 6 the 66 bus service from Waltham Cross will end at 8.15pm, meaning no more 8.45pm or 9.15pm services.
From June 2 the 86 between Harlow and Waltham Abbey will not have a Saturday service and the weekday services will no longer include Nazeing.
Green activist and district council candidate in Waltham Abbey Paternoster ward Dave Plummer said: "This is very bad news for anybody who can’t, or chooses not to, drive.
"It’s also bad news for motorists who already have to deal with traffic jams and a lack of parking spaces.
"It is, of course, bad news for the environment and our children's’ health too.
"Essex County Council say that they are committed to supporting alternatives to car use. Hopefully they will step in and subsidise these services, and later evening services, to help reduce car use, reduce long term health care costs and support our local economy."
EOS has said the reduction in service is due to low passenger numbers and a lack of subsidies from Essex County Council.
The council was contacted for comment but had not replied by the time of publication.
