A charity is holding a series of free hearing checks as part of Deaf Awareness Week.

Age UK Redbridge, Barking and Havering has teamed up with the Mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Linda Huggett.

The event, on Wednesday, May 16, will give people the chance to learn more about hearing loss, deafness and tinnitus.

Speakers on the day will include Jeanann Doyle, NHS nutritionist and cochlear implant user; Maureen Fisher, Lipreading teacher at Action on Hearing Loss; Vaitheki Maheswaran, audiologist at Action on Hearing Loss; and Jasbir Jheeta, who will talk about falls prevention and Age UKRBH services.

Free hearing checks and an information stall will also be available on the day, along with free tea, coffee and light refreshments.

The event runs from 10.30am to 2.30pm, at Age UK RBH, Cranbrook Road, Ilford./

Richard Turner, Community Support Officer for Redbridge at Action on Hearing Loss said: “One in six people have some form of hearing loss in Redbridge and this event is a chance to hear from experts in the field and ask any questions you may have. We would encourage all Redbridge residents to come along.

“Capacity is limited so please register as soon as possible to make sure you get a place.”
