Two Chingford artists that have produced a film in the form of a documentary about life in the South Chingford Shopping area The Mount.

Victoria Corfield, 50, and her partner Alan Bartle, 50, researched the area and by doing so found Acorn Films, which was a company that made news reels of Chingford in the 1940, 50s, 60s, and 70s. They would document events throughout the year and screen them to the community.

“Most of the crew of Acorn Films lived in North Chingford most of their documentation was of North and not South Chingford,” Victoria explains. “That was another reason we choose south Chingford because it had been left behind in some way.”

Victoria and Alan put an advert out to the community for volunteers to take part in the film by talking about their thoughts, perception of the changes and continuity of the south Chingford shopping area.

“We audio recorded them and then filmed the areas they spoke about,” Victoria tells me. “So the film stretches over the period from 1920’s to the present time. Using old footage and new footage.”

The pair have collaborated with Acorn Films, Vestry Museum, Age UK, South Chingford Community Library, Peabody Youth Club, Love South Chingford, Chingford Historical Society, shop owners and residents.
