Women are learning to bake while doing their bit to support vulnerable people.

The East London Soroptimists, based in Woodford, attended a baking class with Luminary Bakery which uses cooking as a tool to help vulnerable women become more employable.

This includes equipping them with transferable skills for the working world.

Club President, Nimrat Bains, said “A baking class was a brilliant way to have fun, learn a new skill and financially support the excellent work of the Luminary Bakery."

The women took two different types of bread - foccacia and Irish soda bread - which they took home to eat.

East London Soroptimists is a voluntary service organisation where like women from all over East London meet to empower other women, either by volunteering their time or through fundraising activities to support charities.

They meet on a regular monthly basis in Woodford at the Memorial Hall. Former President Alison Charles said: "We are a real sisterhood.

"That means that we support each other as members, we support women in East London and also women internationally.”

The Soroptimists of East London are all about making friends with like-minded women, having fun and working together to help improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally.
