Redbridge’s Labour-led council have announced their cabinet ministers for the next four years.

With some familiar faces, the new appointments will steer their various departments through this Labour administration.

Cllr Jas Athwal, of Mayfield ward, remains as council leader and will be responsible for growth and leisure, so everything from sports clubs to new leisure centres.

Cllr Kam Rai will be the council’s deputy leader and stay as the cabinet member for finance.

Cllr Elaine Norman has been appointed as the cabinet member for children and young people, so will be responsible for schools, nurseries and other facilities.

Responsibility for health, mental health, social care and ageing has been handed to Cllr Mark Santos once more.

One shake up has seen Cllr Helen Coomb moved from her familiar post as head of the council’s planning and property department to become cabinet member of transformation and engagement.

She will work closely with Cllr Sheila Bain who has filled the position of cabinet member for planning and planning enforcement.

Cllr Farah Hussain will be responsible for housing and homelessness again.

Cllr Bob Littlewood will be the cabinet member for crime, safety and community cohesion. So, he’s the man to talk to about neighbourhood watches and street watches.

Cllr John Howard will return as the cabinet member for civic pride; meaning he will be responsible for making Redbridge streets cleaner, greener and safer.
