Big crowds are expected at Waterstones in The Mall, Walthamstow this weekend when a successful children’s author comes to town.

Oliver Jeffers will be signing copies of his book, Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth on Saturday (May 26) from 10.30am.

Inspired by the birth of his son Harland, Here We Are is a heartfelt and engaging book in which the award-winning author takes the reader on a journey through a series of notes introducing planet Earth.

Now living in New York, the Irish native has sold more than 10 million books.

Waterstones Walthamstow Manager, James Bainbridge said: “We're really excited to have Oliver Jeffers coming to Walthamstow.

“He is one of our most popular and treasured children's authors and illustrators, and we know that his legions of fans in and around London will really enjoy having the chance to get to meet him and to ask questions about his work and latest book, Here We Are.”

He added: “We are always keen to find and support talented young writers and Oliver’s visit to the Mall is a perfect opportunity to show them what they can achieve by putting pen to paper.”

Oliver’s visit to Waterstones coincides with The Mall’s recently launched children’s story competition, which is running from May 27 to 31 May over the half-term holiday.

Illustrator, cartoonist and children’s author Chris Riddell will appear at a family event run by Waterstones on Wednesday (May 30) at Mirth, Marvel and Maud in Walthamstow.

Mr Riddell has illustrated a new version of J.K. Rowling’s Tales of Beedle the Bard, which is due to be published this October.
