The sun shone on the 1000 people who descended on Epping Forest College for their inaugural Family Fun Day on the Bank Holiday weekend.

The highlight of the free community event for many was the dog show ‘Scrufts’, in which pooches could compete in various categories.

A three year old Jack Russell/Shih Tzu cross Indie bagged Best in Show much to the delight of her owner Layla Kececi.

The College’s Principal and CEO Saboohi Famili organised the dog show and staff from nearby pet shop Vetsavers and Chew Dog Trainers judged the competition.

The Principal said: “I would like to thank the community for the supporting our Family Fun Day.

“It was certainly a hit and attracted many members of our community to explore the College and what it has to offer.

“We hope to have more local community events to give the public an opportunity to share this fantastic educational resource on their doorstep.”

Other free activities included face painting, a bouncy castle, make overs with photographs, print your own t-shirt and pottery tasters.

The travel and tourism department created a big sand pile with spades for little ones to play in, plus airplane seats to sit in.

The plumbing department taught visitors how to fix a leaky tap.

Families were invited to try their hand at brick laying, wiring a plug and bending copper pipe in the College’s construction department.

There was also an art exhibition and live musical theatre provided by performing arts students.

The new Chairman of Epping Forest District Council, Councillor Richard Bassett, later posted on Facebook: “Really enjoyed Saturday at Epping Forest College Family Fun Day, part of Loughton Festival.

“Thanks for an amazing day.”

The event was part of the Loughton Festival and raised money for their chosen charity The Chigwell Riding Trust which the College will continue to collect funds for throughout the month of June.

The College’s wide range of adult courses starting in September 2018 was launched on the day and include everything from learning the guitar and holiday Spanish through to counselling and accounting.
