Pupils at two schools are midway through a walk 'to Haiti' in a bid to build a hurricane proof house.
This summer St Mary's and St Saviour's primary schools in Walthamstow children are spending ten minutes of their break-times walking around their playground.
Added to the miles clocked up walking to school, it is hoped by the end of term they will have clocked up 4,600 miles - the distance to Haiti.
Through donations collected along the way, it is hoped that £7,610 can be raised to allow Christian Aid to train a builder and construct a hurricane proof house in the Caribbean country.
Andy Campbell, local church coordinator for the charity, said: "The aim is to raise awareness about how life there is repeatedly affected by hurricanes and earthquakes.
"They’d also like to raise enough money to build a hurricane-proof house which can keep a family safe.
"So far, they have travelled over 960 miles and are confident that they’ll ‘arrive’ in Port-au-Prince before the summer holidays.
"Alongside the Bishop of Barking I will also be joining the children and staff for part of the journey.
"If you would like to encourage the students, please consider a donation via their Just Giving page."
