Families are invited to Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone for an open day to celebrate the past, present and future of the NHS.

The event on Saturday (July 7), which coincides with the 70th birthday of the health service, will feature an exhibition about the history of the NHS in the East End.

Visitors will be invited to add their memories and photos to the installation and children will be entertained with games and a drumming workshop.

They will also get the chance to explore emergency vehicles and have their hair braided.

Alan Gurney, managing director of Whipps Cross Hospital, said: “I am delighted that this year’s annual Barts Health open day will be held at Whipps Cross, generously funded by Barts Charity.

“We welcome everyone down to meet our friendly team, pick up top health tips and - most importantly - have plenty of fun.”

Those looking for their first step on the career ladder or a change of job can explore Barts Health’s apprenticeship and recruitment opportunities.

Guest will be offered free pulse checks and advice on mental health, dementia and other issues.

The open day will run from 11.30am to 3pm.
