An octogenarian dubbed 'Super-Gran' is to take on a half-a-kilometre zip wire challenge.

Goolmogr Cantel, from Bishop Stortford, is preparing to whizz 490m down an elevated line for Hastingwood charity St Clare Hospice.

The 82 year-old is a dedicated supporter of the charity, former inpatient unit volunteer for five years and aims to conquer The Zip at Adrenalin Quarry in South East Cornwall on August 28.

As well as being in the ranks of St Clare’s more than 500 volunteers, the grandmother of four is also a passionate volunteer fundraiser for the Hospice – having organised a series of race nights and afternoon tea party events over the past five years.

Mrs Cantel, who is known by neighbours as Super-Gran, said: “Over the years, I have raised over £13,000 for St Clare Hospice – including the sponsorship I have collected from the challenges I do every year, such as climbing the O2 and taking on Stratford’s Orbit slide.

"It is my absolute pleasure to fundraise for St Clare Hospice, supporting the incredible care they offer to local people and their families in times of need.”
