An MP met with the French President to discuss a Franco-British young leaders’ programme.
Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, is currently in Paris as part of a young leaders’ programme organised by the Franco-British Council to strengthen ties between the two countries.
The programme brings together people aged between 30 and 40 from the UK and France across a range of sectors and industries including politics, the media, culture, finance and the military.
On Friday June 15, Mr Streeting and the rest of the Franco-British delegation met with Emmanuel Macron, where they discussed the strong bond of friendship between the UK and France.
Mr Streeting said: “It is a great honour to be part of the Franco-British young leaders’ programme and to play a small part in strengthening the strong bonds of friendship between our two great countries. From security and defence co-operation to trade and culture, we have shared interests and an important role to play together on the global stage.
“It was brilliant to meet the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, at the Elysée Palace. It is particularly important that we deepen our friendship with France in the context of Brexit and it was wonderful to hear the President reaffirm his commitment to that special relationship.”
