A fundraising garden party will be held to mark 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela.
Waltham Forest Thuso in South Africa (WFTISA) will host the event to raise cash for its work supporting education in the developing country.
The charity takes inspiration from Mandela’s belief that access to education is the key to achieving a truly democratic and dynamic South Africa.
It is known locally as ‘Thuso’ which means ‘helping hand’ in Sesotho, one of South Africa’s 11 official languages.
Last year, cyclists in Walthamstow raised thousands of pounds for Thuso’s solar lamp campaign to enable pupils in South Africa to study by night.
This year’s party will include live music from Senegalese singer Abdoulaye Samb and dancing and craft activities.
It will take place on Sunday (July 1) from 1pm to 5pm at 37 Grosvenor Park Road, Walthamstow.
