The mayor joined air cadets at a care home's Caribbean themed summer fete last week.

Epping Town Mayor Nigel Avey, who followed in his late father's footsteps to take the ceremonial chains last month, got stuck in to Barchester and Ashlar House Care Home's annual summer fete.

Smooth rhythms and traditional English fair were laid on via a raffle, tombola, barbecue and a live Carribean band.

Rita Green, lifestyle and activity leader at the home, said: "I would like to say a big thank you to the 414 Epping & North Weald Air Cadets.

"A lot of them were in the middle of their exams and they made it, some first thing in the morning to help us set up.

"As well as being a fun afternoon on a lovely summer's day, it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate our recent 'good' CQC rating.

"Everyone had a really good time."

On June 13 the home was rated 'good' in all areas by the rating body.
