Women prepared and led a service at a synagogue in honour of a late member.

People flocked to the East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue, in Malborough Road, Woodford, with other women from the community.

The service was dedicated to former member, Betty Benscher, a community stalwart for the last 50 years.

Organised by student Rabbi Daniela Touati, it also marked the 100th anniversary of the women's vote in the UK.

Other women celebrated during the service were Lily Montagu, Malala Yusafzai, Golda Meir, Rabbi Regina Jonas and Sylvia Pankhurst, who spent most of her life in Woodford . All music played and sung was written or adapted by women too.

At the end of the service a gifts were presented to Student Rabbi Daniela Touati from the community and the Rosh Chodseh group - a ladies group which gathers or the new moon each month.

It was Daniela's last day on placement before returning to France and being ordained as a Rabbi . Student Rabbi Daniela thanked all who had supported her during her time at East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue.

She said: "It has been a wonderful experience and I have learnt so much from the Rabbis and the whole community. Thank you, I look forward to visiting in the near future."
